- To implement and systematize a strategy of pre-operatory investigations
for the candidates of epilepsy surgery.
- To introduce in a programmed way the different modalities used
in the surgical treatment of epilepsy.

NAME OF PROJECT:
Project of Neurologic Restoration
NUMBER OF INVESTIGATORS: 16
DURATION: 5 years
EXPECTED RESULTS:
Scientifics: Validation of the Neurologic Rehabilitation
program (NRP) in motor sequels due to lesion of the NCS (Children’s
Cerebral Patsy), post-traumatic Quadriplegia and paraplegia, motor
disturbances by Encephalic Cranial Trauma and sequel hemiplegia
to Ischemic cerebro-vascular disease); perfectioning of technology
when establishing criteria for the selection of candidates to
MNR from the knowledge of prognostic values linked to lesions
of the CNS; acquisition of knowledge when defining cortical mechanisms
responsible for motor and functional recovery induced by the MNR
application; development of the technical and professional level
of specialized human resources in the Neurosciences at CIREN,
which allows to generate and perform investigations of a higher
scientific level in the future; to evaluate the capacity for investigations
related to the Neurosciences; to promote the scientific investigation
in others areas of the institution as well as the development
of the Neurosciences in the country; to develop the concept of
the neurology of sequels and to state the importance of neuroplasticity
as the center of therapeutic strategy in Neurologic Restoration.
Socials: To create the bases for generalization
of the MNR technology to the rest of the country – previous announcement
of the results of this investigation project; to improve the attention
and quality of life of the persons with neurological sequels in
our country to increase the prestige of Cuban Medicine.
CIREN’S PARTICIPANTS: Clinic of Children’s
Neurology, Clinic for the attention of sequels due to Rachimedullar
lesions in the Adult, Clinic for the Attention a sequels of static
lesions of the CNS in the Adult, Service of Neuropsychology, Laboratory
of Clinical Neurophysiology, Department of Nuclear Medicine.
